Students Learning About Solar Panels

Students in Florida are learning about solar energy. Great educational opportunity to learn more about solar panels

"Richard Welch shook his head when his classmates cheered after finding out their paychecks were in.

"It's not about the money; it's about this here," he said, waving a certificate showing he had completed four weeks of training in solar technology last week.

The 18-year-old Welch was one of 45 students to earn the solar certificate and three other training certificates, as well as a paycheck, through the solar technology training offered as part of the federal stimulus-funded summer youth program.

FloridaWorks, the state's work force board for Alachua and Bradford counties, received $1.5 million in stimulus funds for job services, $590,000 of which went to summer internships and job training programs for 500 youths ages 16-24. It was open to low-income, at-risk or learning disabled youths who received $7.50 an hour for up to 100 hours for training programs or jobs at 100 employers."
